CVWOW Guide to optimising your CV
Welcome to CVWOW where you can browse through over 100,000 vacancies and find your next job….
So you’ve got your CV. You’ve included all your qualifications and past roles with dates. But before you login and search for your next job on CVWOW you may want to read through our quick guide below.
Caution. Do your utmost to keep your CV to 2 pages. Seriously if your CV is longer then try to trim it down. Firstly think about everything on your CV. Make sure you bullet point key responsibilities and relate them to the job you are applying for whilst keeping detail about less relevant roles to a minimum.
Visualise the recruiter having to sift through a stack of applications. It’s worth bearing in mind that the average time a recruiter looks at a CV is 19 seconds. Therefore a short personal profile at the top with your most recent position listed first is essential so your CV stands out. If your CV is too long then you really need to think about your content and how to highlight your relevant experience.
Why? At CVWOW we receive CV’s from senior executives who manage to get their past positions and achievements onto 2 pages. Yes, they may have held down an admin role over 20 years ago but do they go into detail about it? No. Which then leads onto the next important thing you need to do:
Optimise your CV and only focus on experience relevant to the role you are applying for. By all means mention other past roles you’ve held but just dates will do. The recruiter will not be interested in reading more.
Work on a standard CV but you need to be prepared to make changes for every job application you send. This can mean changing your own wording to match the recruiter’s language and adding their keywords that are essential to the role.
Of course once you’ve got your CV ready it’s a good idea to double check it and get someone else to read it. Attention to detail is paramount so make sure all content is grammatically correct with no spelling mistakes. Also don’t forget to check your contact details are up-to-date.
So that’s a quick insight from CVWOW. There are so many different views on CV’s but most recruiters will agree with the above fundamental aspects that you need to consider. We value all feedback from both applicants and recruiters so feel free to join in the discussion.
